Our Story

1930s

Honorato arrived in Turrialba in search of a cooler climate and fertile land. He purchased a farm at 1000 meters above sea level, where he began cultivating coffee, sugarcane, and producing sugar, laying the foundation for generations to come.

1960s

André, an agronomist specializing in coffee and cacao, married Margarita, Honorato’s daughter. Together, they took over the farm and transformed it into a living laboratory. André refined the CR95 coffee seed and developed a unique banana variety, deepening the farm’s agricultural legacy.

2010

Adela, André’s daughter, founded Makala. With a vision rooted in organic agriculture, she began crafting products directly from the farm, creating a brand that reflects both tradition and a commitment to clean, real food.

2024

Phillip, Adela’s son, joined MAKALA to help grow the brand. Together, they expanded the product line with a clean-label vision while introducing regenerative agriculture and syntropic systems to restore and strengthen the farm’s ecosystem.
